Internet or equipment check does not pass

Resolve “No Connection”, “Poor Connection” and a stalled compatibility check.

Guide reviewed:

First, check the stage

These steps are for preparation before a timed attempt. If the exam is already running, use the exam-interruption guide and the support channel assigned to your programme before changing the setup.

Repeat the connection check

  1. Confirm that your connection works and is stable. The published baseline is at least 1 Mbps upload; the actual equipment check must also pass.

  2. Click the connection error or Check control, where available, to repeat verification.

  3. Pause unrelated downloads and streaming, and close unnecessary high-bandwidth apps.

  4. If permitted, try a more reliable connection, such as wired internet or a personal hotspot, then repeat the check.

Compatibility check keeps loading

Use a current browser allowed for the assignment. Close unrelated meeting or screen-sharing applications that may already be capturing the screen. Recheck required camera, microphone and screen permissions.

A VPN, extension or managed network can affect connectivity. Ask your IT administrator or support to diagnose restrictions on a managed device; do not disable organisation security controls yourself.

Still unable to start?

Send support the exact failing check, error, operating system, browser version and how long the check has been loading. If no suitable device or connection is available, ask the organiser about an approved alternative testing arrangement.

Access, schedule or results

Contact your exam organiser using the details in your invitation. They handle assignment access and timing, grades, retakes, appeals and individual arrangements.

What to check before contacting them
What to include in a support message
  • Exam name and the step where the problem occurred.
  • The time and your time zone.
  • Exact error text, operating system, and browser or app version.
  • Checks already tried; an error screenshot without exam questions or unnecessary personal data.

Do not include passwords, sign-in codes or identity documents in an ordinary message. Use the exam’s designated identity-check step for documents.
