Step-by-Step Guide to Your Test in Browser

A complete guide to take your exam in a browser: Chrome, Safari, Edge, Yandex

Before starting the test

To successfully complete an AI-proctored exam, the system must have access to your webcam, microphone, and, in some cases, desktop screen. If any of these permissions are blocked, the exam may not start, or the proctoring system may not function correctly.

This article explains why these permissions are required and how you can check or enable them in your browser settings.

Camera Access

Windows Settings

  1. Open Settings

  2. Go to Privacy

  3. Select Camera

  4. Enable: Allow apps to access your camera

  5. Ensure your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) is allowed

MacOS Settings

  1. Open System Settings

  2. Go to Privacy & Security

  3. Select Camera

  4. Allow access for your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

Browser Settings

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Privacy and Security → Site Settings

  4. Select Camera

  5. Allow access for: https://app.trustexam.ai

OR you can give the necessary permissions when it is prompted during exam setup:

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox

  2. Settings → Privacy & Security

  3. Permissions → Camera → Settings

  4. Allow for the TrustExam website

Safari (macOS only)

  1. Open Safari

  2. Settings Websites tab → Camera

  3. Set Allow for the TrustExam website

Microphone Access

Windows Settings

  1. Settings → Privacy

  2. Select Microphone

  3. Enable microphone access for apps and for your browser

Browser Settings

Chrome

  1. Open Chrome

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Privacy and Security → Site Settings

  4. Select Microphone

  5. Allow access for: https://app.trustexam.ai

  3. Set Allow for the TrustExam website

Desktop Recording Access

Windows Settings

  1. Open Settings

  2. Go to Privacy

  3. Select Screenshots and screen recording

  4. Enable: Allow apps to access your camera

  5. Ensure your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) is allowed

Browser Settings

You will be prompted to share your screen.
Choose Window → TrustExam.

Starting test setup

After accepting the agreement, our system will begin initialization. This process includes:

  1. Automatic equipment check: the system will verify that your device meets the technical requirements

  2. User identification: identity confirmation through the webcam

  3. Access permissions: you will need to allow screen sharing

  4. Accepting all required permissions for camera and microphone

If you have any assistive technologies enabled (for example, remote access tools, virtual cameras) or additional monitors connected, please disable them and try again. This is necessary for the correct functioning of the system and to comply with the testing rules.

Connecting an external camera

Follow these steps to connect an additional camera using your mobile device:

1. Open the External Camera Setup Window


A button labeled “Connecting an external camera” will appear. After clicking it, a special section with a QR code will be displayed on your screen.

2. Scan the QR Code


Use your smartphone’s camera to scan the QR code.
Your phone will automatically open the external camera connection page in the mobile browser.

3. Follow the On-Screen Instructions


Complete the setup by following the prompts on your mobile device.
Make sure your phone remains stable and positioned correctly throughout the exam.

Desktop access

Next you have to connect or share your desktop with the browser, follow the prompts on screen:

Starting and Finishing your test

After the system completes all checks, you will be allowed to begin your assessment.
Click the “Start Test” or “Continue” button.

If you are prompted allow the requests from our website:

You will then see the test questions. You can navigate through the exam using Next and Previous buttons, skip questions, or return to earlier ones if allowed by the exam settings.

Once you have completed all questions, click the “Finish” button.

After submission, your test results will be displayed.

If you are allowed to retake the test you can press the button "Start a new attempt":

A technical problem

Contact your exam organiser using the details in your invitation. They handle assignment access and timing, grades, retakes, appeals and individual arrangements.

What to check before contacting them
What to include in a support message
  • Exam name and the step where the problem occurred.
  • The time and your time zone.
  • Exact error text, operating system, and browser or app version.
  • Checks already tried; an error screenshot without exam questions or unnecessary personal data.

Do not include passwords, sign-in codes or identity documents in an ordinary message. Use the exam’s designated identity-check step for documents.
