System Requirements for Online Exams

System requirements for AI-proctored exams: supported devices, browsers, internet speed, and prohibited equipment.

To successfully participate in an online exam with AI-proctoring, your device and connection must meet the following system requirements. Please read this information carefully before starting the exam.

1. Device Requirements

You must use a laptop or desktop computer to take an AI-proctored exam.

Supported operating systems:

  • Windows (versions 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11)

  • macOS (Intel and M chip versions)

Required equipment:

  • A fully functioning webcam (built-in or external)

  • A functioning microphone (built-in or external)

Your device must be in good working condition and allow access to the browser’s camera and microphone settings.

2. Internet and Browser Requirements

Internet connection:

  • A stable connection with an upload speed of at least 1 Mbps
    (For the best experience, a wired or high-quality Wi-Fi connection is recommended.)

Supported browsers:

  • Google Chrome

  • Safari

  • Mozilla Firefox

  • Yandex Browser

  • Microsoft Edge

Please ensure your browser is updated to the latest version.

3. Important Restrictions

Not Allowed to take the test:

  • Tablets

  • Mobile phones

  • Any portable or hybrid device

Allowed:

  • Laptops and desktop computers

  • In certain scenarios mobile devices (permission of TrustExam tech team required)

Using prohibited devices will result in the inability to start or continue the exam.

4. AI-proctoring and Academic Integrity

During the exam, the system will use AI-based monitoring and, in some cases, manual proctor review to ensure academic integrity.
Any unauthorized assistance, suspicious activity, or attempts to bypass monitoring systems will be considered a violation of examination rules.

Violations may lead to:

  • Immediate termination of the exam

  • Disqualification of results

  • Reporting the incident to your organization

Please ensure you take the exam honestly and independently.

5. Non-Proctored Exams (If Applicable)

If your organization offers non-proctored exams, they may be taken on a variety of devices, including:

  • Laptops and desktop computers

  • Tablets

  • Smartphones

  • Any device with a modern web browser

However, for proctored exams, only laptops and desktops are accepted.

6. Prohibited Items and Environment Requirements

To maintain the integrity of the examination process, the following items and conditions are strictly prohibited during a proctored exam:

  • Secondary monitors (external displays)

  • Earphones, earbuds, or headphones

  • Smartphones or tablets

  • Smartwatches or fitness trackers

  • Bluetooth devices

  • External keyboards or mice connected via wireless adapters (unless required for accessibility and pre-approved by the institution)

If any prohibited device is detected, the system may automatically flag the session, and the attempt may be terminated.


Prohibited Materials

The following materials must not be present on your desk or within arm’s reach:

  • Notes, papers, or printed materials

  • Books, manuals, or study guides

  • Calculators (unless specifically allowed for your exam)

  • Writing boards, sticky notes, or notepads

  • Additional electronic devices of any kind

All materials not explicitly required for the exam must be removed from the workspace.


Environment Restrictions

Your exam environment must meet the following conditions:

  • You must be alone in the room throughout the entire exam.

  • No conversations or external voices should be audible.

  • The room must be well-lit, with your face clearly visible at all times.

  • The camera must show only you, without people entering or passing behind you.

  • Your computer must remain stationary and must not be moved during the session.

Any environmental violation may trigger AI or manual review, which may affect your exam outcome.

  • Checks already tried; an error screenshot without exam questions or unnecessary personal data.

Do not include passwords, sign-in codes or identity documents in an ordinary message. Use the exam’s designated identity-check step for documents.
